A lover’s plea

A lover’s plea

If I could speak to you, just once, anew,

I’d bare my soul, no fear to hold me back.

For every tear I’ve shed was shed for you,

Each moment lost, a step upon this track.

Would you forgive the faults I’ve tried to mend?

Or would my voice fall hollow to your ear?

Can broken hearts, through time and effort, blend,

Or is my love the only one sincere?

I cannot tell if love for me still lives,

Or if you’ve buried it beneath the past.

But know my heart, its every beat, still gives

A hope that fate might bring us back at last.

Should you return, my arms will open wide,

To shelter you, to stand by love’s great tide.
