A New Year’s silence

The year turns new, yet still, I carry you, 

A weight of love that time cannot erase. 

Each thought of us still feels achingly true, 

Though now it dwells within a colder space.

To greet the year with hope and tender care. 

But fear restrains the words I’d have you find, 

Afraid they’ll fall unanswered, lost in air. 

Did love for me take root within your chest? 

Or was it fleeting, fragile as the breeze? 

For though I tried, I failed your heart’s request, 

And now I’m left to question memories. 

The silence grows, but still my heart remains, 

A captive of the past and all its pains.
