The yearning flame

My love for you burns steady, bright, and clear, 

A flame that time or distance cannot quell. 

Each moment lost without you stokes my fear, 

A silent torment words cannot dispel. 

I thought my love alone could bring you back, 

That effort might restore what we once shared. 

But now I see the fault was in my lack, 

And wonder if your heart still truly cared. 

Yet hope endures, a flicker in the dark, 

A stubborn ember fighting through the cold.
